Design Reasons
Gardens are places where you want to be drawn out to, a reason, a need, a space but to have that a garden needs to come alive. It needs to show interest in its shape, its colour, its usability and growth. None of us like to stand still, we like movement and a well planned garden can give you this.
As a Planting Designer I focus on selecting and arranging plants for all seasons colour and interest. Choosing the right trees, shrubs and perennials for your soil, a soil area that will keep your plants healthy as well as creating the bio diversity already in your garden.
Planning flowers and foliage across Spring,Summer, Autumn and Winter
Planting Designers will also include the areas to set these plants off, a patio, walls, decking and other structures, if requested. If you had an extension or new conservatory put in, a Planting Designer can help you show it off to its best effect. We will add lighting to set off the plants, illuminate the structure with them and put the fine touches to complete the project.
A Planting Designer will create a gentle transition between the inside area to the outside area encouraging you to view your garden in a different manner throughout the seasons, so maybe do the whole project in one and watch your garden and house blend together.

As a Horticulturist and Designer I evaluate the type of plants suitable for your garden, right plant, right conditions and as you don’t need to be a gardener to enjoy the garden I am able to position plants that will almost always look after themselves and you won’t need a degree to look after them either.
Flowers are seducers, they seduce pollinators as well as yourself with there generous offers of colour, smell and nectar to pay them a visit and create an interest seen nowhere else.

Instead of planting in grids use natural planting ( called gaggles ) in groups of 3,5 or 7, ( You could create a tapestry )
Contemporary doesn’t mean dead straight lines,
Use chaotic colours to bring out your personality, ( Look at what you wear, your hair colour, your comfort zone )
Your likes, your loves rather than a colour theme,
Don’t mass plant leave some empty space ( it creates an area of calm, a controlled area )
Hide some items within the garden itself rather than have a major focal point ( surprise around every corner )
Large leaved plants in small spaces can make a garden more intimate and jungle like rather than smaller ( make a small space look big )
Break the rules, it will reflect you as an individual.
Gardens should have harmony, rhythm, and above all avoid the need to refine nature
