Gardening With Climate Change In Mind

Its already a fact that the world changes, over the centuries we have discovered vast areas which have changed considerably, from forest areas to deserts, from tropical temperatures to an ice age, but the one factor in all these facts is that the only thing that can’t accept it and / or change with it is us. nature always adjusts itself to the varying weather patterns. Our hot summers have meant some trees dropping leaves a little early, but come early September when the weather cools new leaves emerge, its their way of supplying themselves with food for the dormant period, they know they have the time we question it.

A lot of the reasons our plants suffer is because we are using the wrong plants. In another section I talk about right plant right conditions, well that’s what this is all about, your garden. I have been working on a garden recently to create a more natural garden for a client. Full of enthusiasm I was given a list of native plants most used by designers and advised by the Chelsea Flower Show. It was an interesting list but, for the clients garden only two would accept the conditions.

Rewilding and biodiversity isn’t about copying nature, its about mimicking nature. There are many plants that will give you exactly what your looking for, perfect for your garden atmosphere and provide interest, colour and food for the wildlife in the area, its just knowing what to use.

If you use the right plants for your garden and give them the right conditions the changing climate will become a problem you no longer have.
