What can you see in the Winter season ?

Although there are certain flowers that will thrive in the Winter season, buds appearing to give that burst of colour just as the cold weather is easing off and the bright days returning. The Brunnera with there blue flowers, broad silver leaves that are veined deeply. But we often fail to see the architecture that gives us our colour in the next couple of seasons, bare branches create frameworks, ice allows water to seep into the soil, and the leaves on the ground are there to feed plants as well as create living areas for many insects and plants as well as creating the right atmosphere for the fungi that thrive in the woodland.

Below are some photos I have taken while out and about. Some are from my holidays in Scotland a perfect place to create inspiration, shape of the trees, early morning visits to my supplier on the Somerset levels when I see cloud formations bringing on another sunny day. Shape and structure form the backbone of any garden, so when you go out in the cold days of the year give the plants and trees a little respect, they may be just giving you shape for now, but very soon it will be a multitude of colour and fragrance, just for you.
