My diary December 2025
What am I going to be doing this month ?
Well firstly I have the task of giving a client colour through the winter and into spring in her urns on the back patio. I will be looking at adding evergreen Ferns, Heuchera, Brunnera, for more instant inpact with possibly a few Digitalis to give that late colour before we plant for the summer.
A garden I planted out around and during the hot weather ( reluctantly ) is now thriving and I can’t wait for the spring to see the plants jump into growth and then the summer to see the vision in my mind actually come to light. I will keep the ground forked, mulch the perennials and make sure Camellias,Azalea and Rhododendron stay moist but not wet through the winter, and of course top dressed in late winter for the additional feeding to let the buds burst. The buds on the Hellebore are looking strong and plump so I will be removing all leaf growth to give the flower as much nutrient as possible, always a great blaze of colour on the coldest mornings.
Otherwise cleaning old growth from perennials, pruning out dead growth on Roses and shrubs, transplanting any perennials that may need space and slitting them if required. And of course helping clients plan there displays for 2026.
