Bio Diversity
Its not just about the plants you grow when creating bio diversity, its also how these natural plants help the insects, birds, fungi, microbes and the life in the soil we rarely see. A bio diverse garden is where we mimic nature in such a way that different plants and species support one another in a delicate balance together. They are living laboratories which allow you to observe the flora and fauna in an ecosystem balance through the seasons, they contribute to climate change, carbon absorption and water conservation.
Any garden can achieve this, although each garden is different both in size and conditions picking the right plants with the right natural materials will enable you to see more life in the garden than ever before.
Create areas where wildlife will want to come, feel safe, feed, accessible. These gardens can be slightly untamed, a pile of dead logs, leaves left for a while or over winter in a corner, plant a hedge it creates an avenue of safety, a small 4 inch hole in the fence allows access to Hedgehogs.
Across New Zealand in 2025 gardens like this helped native bird populations surge by 32% through collective action.
Let Inspire help you create a living garden, plants can give you the colour, fragrance, shape, touch and moods but they can also provide food, shelter and warmth for all the life around you. Let your garden become a big part of our natural world and enjoy the interest and life it brings with it.
Pollinators in the UK -
Flies and Hoverflies represent the largest group of pollinators in the UK, over 1500 species of true flies ( Diptera ) contribute to pollination. These are incredibly important because they forage on cloudy, overcast or damp days when Bees remain in their nests.
Bees - Roughly 275 species in the UK which include Bumblebees, Solitary Bees and managed Honey Bees. They are the most effeicient pollinators as their fuzzy bodies catch the pollen.
Butterflies And Moths - Over 2000 species of Butterflies and Moths in the UK, with responsible daytime visitors such as the Red Admiral and Peacock Butterfly.
Wasps, Beetles and Ants all contribute to pollination which is why its vital to think widely when creating a Bio Diverse garden.
